2026 Syllabus - Classical Piano
Classes are grouped by levels for those performing current RCM or CC classical syllabus pieces.
Memorization is required, unless stated otherwise. If a participant performs with music, they are automatically prevented from Provincial recommendation but will receive a Certificate of Participation.
Neurodiverse participants requiring accommodations must contact the Festival Administrator directly admin@kiwanismusicfestival.net.
Participants must provide the adjudicator with an original copy of the music. Failure to do so will result in a "for adjudication only" performance.
An original copy of all ORMTA set pieces will be provided to the adjudicator by the festival.
SOLO SELECTIONS
Music is own choice, but only current RCM or CC syllabus pieces can be entered, except in 'NEfP' classes.
Participants must refer carefully to either the RCM or CC syllabus to determine how many and which movements of a selection are required (i.e. one mvt., two mvts., or complete).
Selections from the RCM Popular Selection list and the CC Contemporary Idioms lists are NOT permitted in CLASSICAL PIANO classes.
OWN COMPOSITION
Scores must be typeset or musically engraved so they can be forwarded electronically to our composition adjudicator by the deadline. Free typesetting programs are available online.
Please note the yearly deadline for score submission. Late entries cannot be accepted. Scores must be emailed to: musicgck90@gmail.com
All composition classes require an audio or video recording to accompany the score that is then adjudicated by a composition specialist. Awards are given for the actual composition, not the performance. Once the score is submitted, that is the version that must be performed at the Festival.
Students are required to perform their piece at the Festival during a composition performance class, which is included in the entry fee. Memorization is not required.
Classical composition scores are now eligible for Provincial nomination. Composition classes count as one (1) class in the discipline.
CONCERT GROUP CLASSES
Perform two contrasting pieces in your class.
Concert Group classes are NOT eligible for Provincial nomination as they only receive one (1) mark for two (2) pieces. However, one of your pieces may be used as your second piece at Provincials, if it meets the Provincial requirements.
AWARDS
Enter a minimum of two (2) classes in this discipline to be eligible for a Festival Award.
PROVINCIALS
Levels 1 & up are eligible for recommendation to the OMFA Provincials.
The adjudicator recommends one piece for performance at Provincials. The second contrasting piece is the performer's choice but must match the discipline's criteria.

Studies: As of 2023, memorized studies or inventions are allowed as one piece at Provincials.

Classical Solo - Concerto
CONCERTO CLASSES
Performance must be from memory. Except at the Open level, performance is own choice of one or two (consecutive) movements of a concerto. Maximum times are listed for each class.
Orchestral part for all concertos will be played on a second acoustic piano. Orchestral introductions by accompanists may be abridged. Note: The 'Italian Concerto' by J.S. Bach is not permitted in this class.

Collaborative Classical Piano NEFP
COLLABORATIVE NEFP
Memorization is NOT required in the Collaborative classes.
These classes are for individuals who work with soloists & groups as the pianist in the performance.
The competitor should provide their own soloist or group.
For the purpose of Festival awards, this class can qualify as your second class in this discipline.
These classes are NOT eligible for Provincial recommendation as the Provincials do not offer collaborative categories.
