What is a Masterclass Session?

A masterclass is an opportunity for students to work with an expert in their field. No marks are assigned and music does not have to be memorized, although it should be at a high level of preparation. We offer masterclasses in classical voice, classical piano, musical theatre, and classical strings.

During the masterclass session, the student will perform their piece and then the adjudicator (expert in their field) will essentially become their private teacher and work directly at the instrument offering suggestions about performance practice, technique, and any tricks they've learned in their own studies.

Although masterclass sessions are not eligible for provincial recommendation, they are ideal for a student preparing for an exam. It is a rich learning experience and students come away feeling supported and encouraged in their musical journey.
