2026 Syllabus - Classical Voice

GENERAL INFORMATION
Memorization is required, unless stated otherwise. If a participant performs with music, they are automatically prevented from Provincial recommendation, but will receive a Certificate of Participation.
Neurodiverse participants requiring accommodations must contact the Festival Administrator directly admin@kiwanismusicfestival.net.
Participants must provide the adjudicator with an original copy of the music. Failure to do so will result in a "for adjudication only" performance.
Classical Voice classes are grouped by levels for those performing classical pieces from the current RCM or CC syllabi.
SOLO SELECTIONS
Music is own choice, but only current RCM or CC syllabus pieces can be entered, except in 'NEFP' classes. Selections from the RCM Popular Selection list and the CC Contemporary Idioms lists are NOT permitted in CLASSICAL VOICE, including musical theatre, popular (contemporary) and operetta pieces.
Vocalise and stand-alone recitatives are NOT allowed. However, recitatives are permitted in arias where indicated in conservatory syllabus.
Refer to RCM/CC syllabi guidelines regarding voice transpositions.
CONCERT GROUP CLASSES
Perform two contrasting pieces in your class. Concert Group classes are NOT eligible for Provincial nomination as they only receive one (1) mark for two (2) pieces. However, one of your pieces may be used as your second piece at Provincials, if it meets the Provincial requirements.
FESTIVAL AWARDS
Enter a minimum of two (2) classes in this discipline to be eligible for a Festival Award given at the Awards Celebration Festival of Stars concert.
PROVINCIALS
All sections are eligible for recommendation to the OMFA Provincials.
While only ONE qualifying selection will be entered as the adjudicator's recommendation and must be performed at Provincials, participants are required to PERFORM at least TWO PIECES MATCHING THIS DISCIPLINE'S CRITERIA at Provincials.

NEFP: Indicates classes that are NOT eligible for Provincial recommendation.
ACCOMPANIMENT
Accompaniment can be by piano only for live festivals.
Unless a piece is specifically written to be unaccompanied it must have accompaniment.
For live events, a sound system is NOT provided for recorded accompaniment and its use is discouraged.
For virtual events, accompaniment can include: Live, pre-recorded, back-tracks, etc. No background/back-up vocals are permitted.

Ensembles - Classical Duet
Classical Voice Duets & Trios are grouped by LEVEL for those performing classical style pieces. Enter the class of the highest grade level in the group.
Small Ensembles are for groups of 4-15 and can contain a combination of voice & instruments, with voice being prominent. Enter the class that matches the oldest competitor's age. Small Ensembles can use a combination of voice and instruments.
The total number of bars of a solo or solo ensemble passage(s) may not exceed 20% of the total length of the selection.
Groups can include: Small Bands and Orchestras (performing popular music), Garage or Rock Bands, Small Choirs, or Glee Choirs.
The VOICE ENSEMBLE classes will be adjudicated by the VOICE ADJUDICATOR, so the pieces should be voice prominent.
**Note: Chamber repertoire is not allowed in this category.
'Adult' is defined as anyone age 19 or older.
'Teacher' is defined as anyone who is a music teacher (this would include parents/grandparents, etc. if they are teachers).
AWARDS
For Duets & Trios, only one piece is required for an award.
For Small Ensembles, perform two (2) contrasting pieces in your class to be eligible for Provincial nomination.
